The Rim Fire passed the 1977 Marble Cone (Ventana Wilderness) incident to claim the spot as sixth largest wildfire in California history.
Video from August 22 late afternoon. This video is worth the look. We can appreciate the professionalism of tanker pilots and the often unseen or unappreciated efforts of air attack.
I cannot recall any wildfire in recent history that grew this large as quickly.
The only publicly accessible report for the Aspen Fire indicates the fire has bulled its way into the Kaiser Wilderness. The fire blew past newly established dozer lines strung along ridges in advance of the flames.
